The Industrial Heritage Committee, Inc.

The Industrial Heritage Committee, Inc. is a not for profit organization whose purpose is to document and preserve Buffalo's significant industrial and commercial history and to increase public awareness and access to this history. The Industrial Heritage Trail, a walking, biking, driving trail with designated markers opened in 2014 on Fuhrmann Blvd. on the outer harbor. The Trail is based on the 1990 Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) Grain Elevator Survey, sponsored by the IHC. The Industrial Heriatge Committee believes development of the City's waterfront needs to celebrate the City's unique heritage to create a sense of place in attracting local, regional and international  tourists and has also proposed that one of the major sites serve as a working museum of Buffalo's industry, invention and commerce.

The committee celebrates Buffalo as the birthplace of the grain elevator and the still extant collection of these structures which serve as an outdoor museum, a tribute to the City's unique industrial architectural and engineering heritage.
