Mission Statement

The mission of The Gow School is to maintain and operate an independent, not-for-profit boarding school for the education of young men, grades 7-12, using a college preparatory curriculum with emphasis on the remediation of dyslexia through Reconstructive Language.

School Goals

Students at The Gow School learn:

- To set goals for their own learning, to pursue their goals confidently and to take pride in their accomplishment;

- To acquire and employ through discipline and practice the knowledge, procedures and skills required for college work in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Fine Arts and Applied Technology;

- To analyze and understand the use of language in all areas of endeavor and to arrive at effective strategies for improvement in listening, speaking, reading, writing and selling;

- To improve their intellectual ability through the rigorous study and expression of ideas;

- To value a lifestyle of physical fitness and enduring health;

-To value cooperation in work and play;

- To enjoy the arts and realize their own potential as creative artists;

- To contribute to their community through leadership and service;

- To value ethical behavior and to reason from moral principles;

- To understand and make appropriate emotional responses and to deal maturely with the responses of other people; and

- To seek, identify, and use their own resources as well as the resources of their community, to resolve problems in the social and natural environment.

Pillars

The Gow School philosophy embraces the core beliefs of four PILLARS: Kindness, Respect, Honesty and Hard Work. Faculty and staff teach and model these values, and students are expected to uphold the PILLARS throughout the academic and non-academic day.
