Hayao Miyazaki’s new film begins as a simple story of loss and love, and rises to a staggering work of imagination. During WWII, young Mahito suffers a heartbreaking tragedy, and must relocate to the countryside. Isolated, Mahito begins exploring the mysterious landscapes and encounters a grey heron and an abandoned tower. Entering, he discovers a wondrous, often-startling phantasmagoria.
