5 Things to Know in Troy This Week (2/4/19)

Whether you call Troy home or just happen to be in town this week, you’ll have plenty to choose from to fill your calendar. The city is ablaze with hints of romance and Valentine’s Day events, from beautiful music to hands-on crafting. Check out these five must-do events in Troy this week. 

Startup Tech Valley Monthly Meetup

This free monthly meeting brings entrepreneurs of all skills and experience levels together to share ideas and spark imaginations. This gives entrepreneurs a chance to network with fellow tech gurus, learn more about the industry, and grow their venture. This month’s meetup will take place in Brown’s Revolution Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Romantic Chopin from the Albany Symphony Orchestra

Romance is in the air in Troy on Saturday, Feb. 9 and Sunday, Feb. 10. The Albany Symphony Orchestra takes the stage at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall to fill your ears with the soothing melodies of master composer Chopin. David Alan Miller will be conducting the Piano Concerto No. 2 and Schumann’s Symphony No. 2, a perfect prelude to America’s most romantic holiday. Tickets start at $15 and can be purchased online.

Troy Maker’s Market

Saturdays in Troy are for shopping the local Maker’s Market, a vendor affair filled with homemade handicrafts like jewelry, art, decor, and curios you won’t find anywhere else. All vendors are local artisans that have been carefully vetted to sell at the market. Pick up a gift for a loved one or grab a few unique finds for yourself.

Be Our Valentine at the Art’s Center

This Saturday, Feb. 9, you can put your own maker’s skills to the test. The Arts Center of the Capital Region is hosting a Valentine’s Day crafts event. Attendees will have access to all the supplies you need to create fabric hearts for needle crafts, necklaces, magnets, or other décor—your imagination is your only limit! Primo Botanica’s Oliver Holleck will also be on site for chocolate tastings and demonstrations. This event is free and open to the public.

Music at Noon: Red Canna Trio

Troy Savings Bank Music Hall is hosting a free performance by Red Canna Trio, a chamber jazz ensemble that brings soul and energy to the stage. This performance is part of the free Music at Noon concert series that brings an eclectic style of musicians and talent to the city on the second Tuesday of every month October through May.
