Located just east of the village of Gouverneur, the Gouverneur Country Club is nestled in the bucolic countryside of the Town of Fowler. It was established in 1930 when B.O. Kinney, a local entrepreneur, acting as a representative of the newly formed Gouverneur Country Club, finalized the purchase of the Manning farm at Hailesboro on June 25, 1930.
Golf architect, Sherrill Sherman, from Utica was immediately engaged “to get the grounds ready for golf purposes.” Although some play was noticed during the fall of 1930, the club did not officially open until 1931.
