Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center

87 Nature Center Way

The Emma Treadwell Thacher Nature Center opened in July 2001 and is located in Thompson's Lake State Park and adjacent John Boyd Thacher State Park. Exhibits and displays include a geologic model of the Helderberg Escarpment, a live honeybee observation hive, bird viewing area, fossils, furs and other hands-on collections.

Trails for hiking and skiing lead from the nature center to the lake, through woodlands and fields.

The center offers year-round educational programs for school groups, youth organizations, clubs and the general public.

So this place is really cool I don't think I've ever been here before maybe a long long time ago I don't know I didn't get to stay here for long because I arrived a half an hour before closing but the employees they were very friendly there was a loose turtle or tortoise roaming around they have an extensive fossil and gem stone exhibit, they also have an apiary which is a thing for bees, you should also make sure you ask about the salamanders

Very well run nature center with helpful staff and a small gift shop. Bird viewing area, plenty of displays, a hiking trail and kids library and game center round the place out nicely.

Very friendly staff. Watch for the scheduled programs such as on bats, etc for the kids. Interactive displays depending on the seasons good for kids and adults.

Quiet and studious yet engaging and friendly, conveniently close to the lake and campsites, this place is amazing. I've been going for years and never once had a disappointing visit. So many little live exhibits with knowledgeable staff always around.
